The team started in 1960 as the Boston Patriots in the AFL, boasting early stars like quarterback Vito "Babe" Parilli and linebacker Nick Buoniconti. They had a promising start but faced tough times in the late 60s, including a long stretch of losing seasons and frequent changes in their home stadium.
In 1971, after the AFL-NFL merger, the team moved to Foxborough and became the New England Patriots. This move marked the beginning of a new, successful era for the franchise.
